I have been looking online for weeks for a crib that would be sturdy, strong, and not completely ugly. I've found a few, but they all seem to be so extremely expensive! (The day finally came that I felt betrayed by my trusty Walmart.) So, I took an afternoon by myself and went to peruse Ikea. I haven't been there for almost two years, and I was on a mission. My time was not wasted. Here is what I found in the way of cribs:

And later on, it converts into a toddler bed. See?

And the best part? It's only $159! What a steal! I've looked it over twice now (once when I found it, and once when I went back with Daniel to get his fatherly approval) and it's most definitely structurally sound. I love the wood color (I hate white baby furniture--especially cribs--with a passion, so this was a nice find) and the fact that the mattress can be raised or lowered. And the crib sides themselves only come waist high on me, which is awesome because I have a really hard time with those "easy-sliding" crib sides that never seem to slide. All in all, amazing. And the best part: Ikea has a whole matching bedroom set. Amazing, of course. Not that I need a little chest, or a children's wardrobe...but I do need a small dresser with a changing table top. And guess what they have...a small dresser with a changing table top. And it even has easily accessed open area for diapers, wipes, etc. I'm so excited.

And while I'm on the subject, I might as well mention I received inspiration for the rest of the baby's room. I'm shying away from the generic girl's nursery where everything screams PINK. I'm going with black, white, and red. So I'm planning on this for a bedspread: (I love the little black animal shapes, and the single red chick at the top. The Swedes are on to something here...)

And for the rest of the room, Olivia the Pig will have a huge presence. She's a pig with an attitude. Seriously...how great is that? And she embodies my color scheme:

A few more reasons I love Ikea: Anna's Ginger Cookies...so good.

Two hot dogs, a bag of chips, and a soft drink with free refills. All for only $2.50. Can you get any closer to a salt-craving, pregnant woman's paradise? I think not...

Daim. 'Nuff said.

Isn't IKEA the best thing EVER!!! Most of the furniture in our house came from there- including Max's room. And of course everyone loves his room. My favorite thing about the IKEA cribs is that they're not these ginormous things that take up a ton of room. And it's exciting- we're getting an IKEA in North Carolina this month!!! Rob and I have been taking day trips up to Woodbridge- we'd get on the road at like 5 or 6am, get there about 10am, get what we need, and try to be on the road again by 3 or 4pm. It was rough. Oh and I'm glad you're not going with pink- if we ever have a girl I'm banning it from entering our house (ok, so I know realistically I can't ban it, but I'm going to seriously limit it)
I love Olivia! Yous should get Carolynn the same black and white tights, they're awsome!
I LOVE the theme Em. I have to admit, I do love pink...but I think an Oliva bedroom is fantastic!!!!!!! Such a great idea! :) The crib looks like a total stea. way cute.
