Next week marks the beginning of Lynny's potty training. We're going to introduce her new potty seat, let her flush the toilet, practice going pee pee in the potty some more (she's already done it a few times), and then work into "big-girl" panties. I've done a lot of research on potty training, and starting early sounds like it will probably work for us. (Hopefully! If we can have Lynny out of diapers by the time Baby George comes along, the better for us!)
What I'm looking for is any advice from you potty training veteran moms and dads. Any tried-and-true methods or tricks you've found? How about supplies? How many pairs of panties should I get? What about potty training when you're out and about, with public restrooms and such? Share your knowledge!

ally is not potty trained yet, but we just had her 2 yr check up and the doc shared some things. he said to let her get adjusted to sittinng on a toilet (which sounds like you are doing that) by letting her sit and read books for a few minutes every day. when she does pee go crazy with praise. he said it's easier to potty train when she is aware of the need to go and when she can communicate to you that she needs to go. he also said that sometimes starting with trying to get her to poo first is easiest because you can usually tell if she needs to go before she actually goes.
also, i have several friends out here who have done the "2-day potty training" program and swear by it. but, those 2 days are long, hard, dirty, and stinky!!!
that's all i have to share about potty training since we haven't done anything past identifying when she has to poo. good luck!!!
Setting her up for success instead of failure is a good idea. With Anna, it was drinking practically a gallon of diluted juice, waiting ten to fifteen minutes, and then having her sit on the potty while she watched Dora or Diego. Minutes later, she went. The advice about ridiculous praise is great - Anna responded really well when she figured out she had done something great. We got two packs of 12 panties. Worked great. Also, hee hee, teach her to potty in the bushes early on...there will come a time when there are NO bathrooms around, and you can avoid an accident. It's like camping...
